Xbox One Announcement

So it was finally announced last night and confirmed that the next generation console for Microsoft would be the Xbox One. Why a name like that? well it seemed I did call it and it's an all in one entertainment unit and not just a video game console. Below is the replay video from Gamespot.com so if you not seen the conference then check it out, if you have jump over the video to see my thoughts.

This is the second attempt to write this post because I'm finding it hard to write my thoughts for this console. When I first saw it I was really impressed with the look of the controller, it looked comfortable and brought all the great stuff from the Xbox 360 one. The console itself though looked just ok, one giant beast of a machine but as long as it does its job then I don't mind.

So it comes with 8GB ram, great that means it can cope at least then you got 500gb hard drive. Liking the extra space because I'm getting close to hitting my 250gb xbox 360 one. Then we finally have Blu-Ray player, hooray for taking a step forward. Then it went down hill after that, I think Microsoft forgot that the Xbox should really be a video game console first. Instead we spent a good part of an hour listening to all the TV features that it can do, don't get me wrong i love the snap feature if it can be used for gaming as well. I would love to open the Internet Explorer mid game so I can check out a collectible guide or a guide what Ingredients I need to make a potion.

But how great that could be they never did once mention it about being used with gaming, if I did miss that please comment at one point in the conference it was so I can re watch it. It really got to me how they skipped over all the gaming stuff, Xbox Live was barely talked about. A lot of us want to know what the new features are, it's great to know we can transfer are profile over but will it be permanent. If I transfer over am I stuck there for good because I want to be able to continue to turn my Xbox 360 on with my profile since the new Xbox One is not compatible with Xbox 360 games.

A lot of people was shocked they could not play their old games, I'm more shocked you did not see that coming since the Xbox One hardware is a massive step forward over the Xbox 360. To run the old games they would have to put more stuff in to get them to play, so to sum it up more money would have to be spent so the cost would rise up. Don't get me wrong I feel your pain because I would love to play all my games on one machine.

Anyway back to the poin at hand, Microsoft paid way too much attention to the TV part and the worst part is after the conference ended it was announced the Live TV would only work for America on launch day. Nice one Microsoft because it's not like the rest of the world was watching today.

---------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

I walked away not impressed with the console and the amount of conflicting interviews yesterday is just making it worse, everything from it can run pre-owned to having to pay extra to play co-op. Microsoft really need to step up and do some damage control, answer a lot of the questions because right now they making Sony look angels at this point. If I had to decide on a console right now this minute I would say none, don't get me wrong the PlayStation 4 sounds a lot better right now over the Xbox One but that's the problem, the console was never shown off working. It was all this is what we want, this is what we doing so it was concept stuff so I'm waiting to actually see the thing running all their the stuff they promised first.

In around 18-19 days is E3 so hopefully we will see more and a lot more games to make buying these consoles worth it. Too many so called next generation games are going to come out on current generation meaning that the next generation versions are just ports with slightly improved graphics etc. Not really worth the extra £10 price tag and really not worth forking out £400+ on the console to play them when the console sitting under your TV right now can play them.

So that's my thoughts folks, like everyone else on the Internet I was not impressed with the conference and I just hope E3 is better then I hope because right now I'm worried that won't have this great show. For now though I'm going to sit on the fence and wait to see what they do with the next generation.

P.S. Kinect 2 having to be plugged in all the time, what the hell was they thinking! I hope it takes less space because I could not get it working properly in my living room.

I was so excited when the conference started! I do like the look of it, its smart and modern looking and fits into the home quote well providing you have a shiny black tv which most homes do. But I cant help but think its a bit 'blocky'?

As far as profile is concerned, I'm sure you can keep a profile on each console. Just redeem on the ONE. I have my brothers profile on my Xbox and he has it on his so I could use his PvZ and worms games without downloading them myself, sneaky :-P. So I don't see why that won't work.

I was also hoping that an optional 3D element may be available.
